- Reflection of the social conditions in the original story
- When the original cartoon was published during the 60's,
there was a complicated world situation which contributed to the popularity of the cartoon.
For example spy movies were in their golden age influenced by the cold war between the U.S and the Soviet Union.
In addition the nuclear bomb was feared as the ultimate lethal weapon that could extinct the humankind.
At the same time the competition between the countries helped to make the rapid progress in scientific industries such as computer technologies and space development.
Giant Robo was created as the symbol of showing both respect and awe of the scientific industry.
- Drawing style of Mr. Mitsuteru Yokoyama
- This animation describes robot as the lethal weapon risking the existence of human kind.
People dispute over its control and violence bred violence which erupts battle.
Mr. Mitsuteru Yokoyama's original and profound touch in his cartoon succeeded in describing those scenes more realistically than the live action movie and gained huge popularity from children.
His outstanding drawing gives reality to robots and heroes which has the possibility of being nonsense and lame.
How do people change when they obtain the ultimate lethal weapon?
This compelling message deeply remained in many of the children's hearts.
- The ultimate version! Giant Robo officially approved by the original author
- This project was targeted for the year 2007 with the original author Mr.Mitsuteru Yokoyama to create the ultimate animated version of Giant Robo,
which coincidentally is the 40th anniversary of the cartoon.
Unfortunately Mr. Mitsuteru Yokoyama died in an accident on 2004.
The new design was edited by Mr. Mitsuteru Yokoyama and the staff created this animation respecting the entire request from Mr. Yokoyama's will.
All of the staff are determined to complete this animation as the "ultimate version" of Giant Robo.
- COMMENT FROM HIKARI PRODUCTION
- On 2007 Giant Robo celebrates its 40th anniversary.
This project was planned when Mr. Yokoyama Mitsuteru was alive and Giant Robo was brought back to life with its innovative design and spectacular story.
Our heart was filled with expectations from the beginning with its attractive design and concept of the story,
so we are very happy so see the completion of this animation.
We are sure that the late Mr. Mitsuteru Yokoyama will be glad to see the steel giant moving again from heaven.
